Rachel Roswell The Alien edition by Dwayne Fry Literature Fiction eBooks

I found this short story interesting enough, but the two main characters a bit too dumb to be plausible, at one stage the threat of a girl being taken by a bunch of males arises and her worst fear is that they will kiss her, rather than what even a ten year old would know they likely plan on doing to her. Rachel and Roswell are our two main characters, neither wants to work and somehow each still manages to pay the rent in the complex they live in. Likely from stealing from cars from what they are up to in this story. It is when stealing from a car that one of them thinks she sees an alien who is dressed in the supermarket employee uniform in the car park they wait for customers to leave their vehicles unlocked before they go inside. Shortly after they try and steal something that belongs to him.

This is a story with mostly dialogue, it's enjoyable enough but the unrealistic intelligence level of the girls ultimately hinders the story. The alien though is pretty unique to the norm though.

Rachel Roswell The Alien edition by Dwayne Fry Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This story felt as if it was written as a pilot to a television series. A genuine remake of The Dukes of Hazard, except the main characters are not only the Dukettes in this story but they are also definitely the hazard. I can honestly say that I have never read any characters as eyebrow rubbing in disgust stupid as Rachel and Roswell, but that is pretty much the point of the story.

The stupidity is pulled off brilliantly! (Another sentence added to my list of sentences I thought I would never say.)

It was an overall fun little short story (novelette or so) and I would recommend it to readers who like
- the kooky antics of weirdos / aliens
- the surreal mixed with the ordinary
- quick, fun, and interesting stories
- other books Dwayne has written
I like the premise of the story, but I had trouble distinguishing between the two main characters, Rachel and Roswell. The author gave Rachel a propensity to speak with a British accent which helped to identify her when she spoke this way, but otherwise, without attribution, it was difficult to tell who was talking. I think the story would have worked better with a viewpoint character rather than an omniscient point of view. Also, the story ended too quickly for me. I liked the surprise ending, but it was kind of dropped in there.

There is much to like about Rachel, Roswell, and the Alien lots of quirky humor, some suspense, endearing characters especially the alien, and a very different take on extraterrestrials. It is a fun read, but it could have been more. I recommend it.
After reading a few of the more literary offerings from this author, jumping back into humor was simultaneously fun and jarring. Rachel and Roswell are quite possibly two of the dumbest protagonists I've seen in a while, but in a way, that's what made the story work for me. There were shades of dumb things that aren't very far fetched (like being broke but spending money on a lottery ticket) as well as some far more outlandish (A showdown with small time thugs that turns...well...I can't tell you because of spoilers). In fact, in a way, the alien is the least outlandish part of this story and, looking at other satirical works by Fry, I can't help but wonder if that's not intentional. Either way, I was entertained.
I really don't know what to make of this one. To be honest, it reminded me a lot of the movie 'Dumb and Dumber'. At times, I was wondering if there was a contest between the two girls to see who was the dumber. Then came the three 'tough' guys. Now, I'm not too sure who'd win anymore.

I am a fan of Dwayne Fry's writing. I like the way his stories seem to flow naturally and how his characters come to life. This one is no exception. However, the movie I'm referring to? Hmm…not so much. I've slapped my face so many times while reading this story that I might need to hide for a few days less someone will think I've been beaten. Despite that, I wouldn't go as far as to say I hated the book, not at all. In some twisted strange way, I kind of liked it. The ending had a nice twist I didn't see coming. So I'm really thorn when it comes to rating it.

If you are a fan of the movie 'Dumb and Dumber' and the likes, you will greatly enjoy this short story. As for me, well, I'm giving it a 4 because while the characters were…well…dumb, I have nothing to say against the author style, the writing, or the story itself. It's more of a taste thing for me.
