It came to mind as I finished reading Michael Segedy's Cupiditas: Evil's Root. This author, a teacher and poet, is trying to deliver a critical message via fiction: we have to realize the intelligence community is out of control. He uses a real false flag event taking place in South America as the basis to deliver his message--the real murder of the two Peruvian journalists. As I read Cupiditas I regularly consulted online sources, finding matching reports, and all that I could do was shake my head. In a time when our own CIA clandestine service brags online that it serves its "customers" (not its country), this only reinforces the message of a captivating book written by a teacher who is telling us to pull our heads from the sand, before it is too late. Evil's Root Compilation (Books 1 & 2) are page turners from start to finish. (In Deep (1) and Cupiditas (2)), are also available as one book. A real intrigue!! Not only is the story line exciting and believable, it is educational too about Peru, its people, history and geography. It sheds light on the dark period of the Shining Light and military without feeling you are at a history seminar. Steve Collins is a believable character and one you at, one moment feel endeared to, then the next are frustrated at - but in a good way as it makes you feel involved as a reader. His love interest Jennifer is also an integral part of the story as is the grandfartherly General whom you find you root for!! I highly recommend these books.......like the Millenium series you must read both books to fully appreciate the complete exciting story to it's shocking end!! Enjoy.
